3. What is the difference between full-service design and E-design?

Full-service design means our team manages the project from concept to completion. This can include design planning, sourcing furniture, coordinating vendors, and overseeing installation.

E-design is a virtual service where we provide a design plan, moodboard, product links, and layout guidance that you can implement at your own pace.

4. How do I get started with a design project?

Getting started is simple:

5. What should I expect during my first consultation?

Your initial consultation is where we begin understanding your space, lifestyle, goals, design challenges, budget, and vision. We'll talk about what is and isn't working in your current space, what you'd like to accomplish, your preferred style and colors, your anticipated investment, and the appropriate next steps for your project.

6. What should I have ready before contacting an interior designer?

It helps to have a general idea of:

• What you want to change
• Your desired timeline
• Your approximate project investment
• Inspiration photos, if you have them
• Any furniture or special pieces you'd like to keep

7. Do I need to know my budget before hiring an interior designer?

No. You don't need to know the exact dollar amount, but having a realistic investment range is extremely helpful. Your budget helps us determine which products, materials, vendors, and design solutions are appropriate for your project. We believe in having an open conversation about budget early so that your design can be beautiful and financially realistic.

8. Does my interior design fee include furniture, décor, or other products?

No. Your interior design fee covers our professional design services, expertise, time, planning, sourcing, and project-related services outlined in your agreement. Furniture, lighting, rugs, artwork, window treatments, accessories, materials, and other furnishings are purchased separately and are not included in the design fee.

9. Does my design fee include the contractor's cost?

No. Contractor and trade costs are separate from your interior design fee. General contractors, painters, electricians, plumbers, installers, carpenters, and other trades provide services that are billed separately from Anntraves Interior Design's professional design services.

10. Why do I pay a design fee if I still have to purchase the furniture?

Think of the design fee as your investment in the professional expertise behind your finished space. We develop the design concept, create a cohesive look, determine appropriate selections, source products, consider scale and proportion, coordinate colors and finishes, and help you avoid costly design mistakes. The furniture and materials are the products that bring that professional design plan to life.

11. Do you work with renovation or remodeling projects?

Yes. We frequently collaborate with contractors, builders, and architects to assist with renovations and new construction projects. We help with material selections, cabinetry design, finishes, and overall aesthetic direction.

12. What's the difference between an interior designer and a contractor?

Your interior designer develops the vision and design direction for the space. We focus on aesthetics, functionality, space planning, furnishings, finishes, materials, lighting, and the overall design experience. The contractor is responsible for executing the construction work required to bring portions of that design to life.

For renovation projects, the designer and contractor often work together, but they have very different responsibilities.

13. Will you work with my contractor, or do I need to use yours?

If you already have a contractor, we can discuss whether working with your contractor is appropriate for the project. If you need one, we may be able to recommend qualified contractors or trades. However, the contractor operates as a separate business and their pricing and contractual obligations are separate from your agreement with Anntraves Interior Design.

14. Can you work with furniture or pieces I already own?

Absolutely. If you have pieces you love, we can determine whether they work with the new design. During the design process, we'll evaluate their size, style, color, condition, and function and recommend what should stay, be repurposed, relocated, updated, or replaced.

17. How involved will I be in the design process?

Throughout the design process, you'll have opportunities to review and approve key recommendations and selections. Our job isn't simply to give you what you already know you like—it's to take your ideas, elevate them, and create a cohesive design you may not have imagined on your own.

18. What happens if I don't like something you select?

That's part of the design process. We use our initial conversations, questionnaires, inspiration, and project meetings to understand your style before making recommendations. If something doesn't feel right, we'll discuss what you don't like about it so we can refine the direction while maintaining the integrity of the overall design.

19. How long does a design project take?

Every project is different. The timeline depends on the size and scope of the project, decision-making, product availability, custom orders, shipping, contractor schedules, construction requirements, and unexpected delays. During the planning process, we'll establish a projected timeline based on your individual project.

20. Do you offer consultations only?

Yes. If you simply need professional guidance, we offer design consultations where we provide recommendations for layout, color palettes, furniture placement, and décor ideas.

21. Do you help with furniture and décor purchasing?

Yes. We source furniture, lighting, art, rugs, and accessories from trusted vendors and suppliers to ensure quality and cohesive design.

22. Do I have to purchase everything at once?

Not necessarily. Depending on the scope of your project, budget, and design plan, purchases may be made in phases. However, certain items may need to be ordered within a particular timeframe because of availability, lead times, construction schedules, or pricing changes.

23. Can I purchase items on my own after you select them?

This depends on the type of service and the terms of your design agreement. For full-service projects, we may manage purchasing and procurement to help ensure the correct products, quantities, finishes, sizes, and specifications are ordered. This also allows us to better manage deliveries, damages, replacements, and project coordination.
